Dear all,

With the approaching of the 2007 World AIDS Day, UNAIDS and China Red Cross Foundation is planning to organize a joint project “The Great AIDS Walk” at Juyongguan Great Wall. The aim of this activity is to create wide awareness of the HIV issues in China, mobilize leaders in various sectors and generate funds to support China Red Cross and other organisations’ HIV activities through the China Red Cross Foundation.

This project’s main activity is the preparation and organization of a walk or hike on the Great Wall of China in commemoration of World AIDS Day on Sunday the 2nd of December 2007. Important leaders from the government, the world of sport, multilateral organisations, the private sector, NGOs, mass organisations, organizations of people living with HIV and individual citizens will be encouraged to participate. This way they are given the opportunity to illustrate their commitment to lead in the HIV response.

Grassroots organisations, NGOs, mass organisations, associations and foundations, government institutions and multilateral organisations working on HIV are welcomed to set up booths at no costs at the arrival area close to Juyongguan Great Wall to inform the public about their activities and sell smaller items to generate funds. Particularly invitation for this type of activity is extended to organizations of people living with HIV. All materials and equipment must be provided by the organisation wishing to set up the booth. People will be able to visit the booths while they wait for the walk to start and after the walk while waiting for the buses to depart.

Kindly note that there will be limited space for this activity, so Red Cross and UNAIDS reserve the right to limit the number of booths. Organisations are invited to join with other organisations for one booth. Some funds will be made available to cover documented costs of organisations that wish to set up a booth (not staff time), but do not have the financial means to do so. A simple application with budget should be made out to Red Cross (christina824@sohu.com) with cc to UNAIDS (yangy@unaids.org).

For more information about the activity and the issue of setting up booths of your organization, please contact the China Red Cross Foundation:
