These documents represent the 126 countries and territories who as of March 2006 had submitted to UNAIDS their 2005 Country Progress Reports in implementing the UN Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS endorsed in 2001 by 189 member states.
These reports in general, include both narrative and summary indicator data, through the end of 2005. Some countries only report their indicator data and provide no narrative. These reports were used in the preparation of the 2006 Global AIDS Report that UNAIDS has prepared which will be distributed at the 2006 High Level Meeting on AIDS in New York City. The recommended indicators used frequently by the countries reflect the international indicator standards set by a group of independent international technical experts who participate in the UNAIDS Monitoring and Evaluation Reference Group (MERG). These indicators have been tested, vetted and endorsed during a multi-year process involving countries participants and multiple bilateral and multilateral agencies.
