This research is the first comprehensive study of the impact that HIV/AIDS (Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Auto Immune Deficiency Syndrome) has on children in China.
The main aim of the research is to identify the needs of HIV/AIDS infected and affected children, in order to assist China's Ministry of Civil Affairs (MCA) in the formation of social assistance policies.
This survey shows that, because of the negative effects of HIV/AIDS on families, governments not only need to focus on the treatment and cure of the disease, but also provide social support, with top priority being given to HIV/AIDS affected families with children. It is important that the government act to prevent the breakdown of these families. A program of support is needed to make permanent arrangements in families or family-like environments for those HIV/AIDS affected children who have lost both parents.
