Forming of the Lamivudine Cost Reduction Working Group
Secretariat, Lamivudine Cost Reduction Working Group
2008-04-03

  [refer to Chinese page]

The training on ‘Law on Anti-discrimination in Employment’ organized by Beijing Yirenping Centre was held on 22 March 2008 in Zhejiang, Hengzhou. The content of this training included an information seminar on “Labour Law” and “Employment Act”.  It also included sharing of the theory and practice of NGO work and the discrimination experienced by carriers of Hepatitis B, whilst at work.  On 23 March, Beijing Yirenping invited Madam Hu Yuanqiong of Medicins San Frontieres (MSF) to give a lecture on the report “Access to Medication and Intellectual Property Rights Protection”.  This report went into extensive discussion of the anti-viral drugs’ patents and reproduction issues.  This is closely related to the cost of anti-viral drugs in our country.  In addition, Madam Hu Yuanqiong’s talk on how to promote cost reduction for anti-viral drugs was especially crucial.  This section captured the attention of the student members who were present.  After the report, they voluntarily set up a Lamivudine Cost Reduction Working Group.  This working group was comprised of members who are experienced “comrades” in the Hepatitis B community.  Madam Hu was being recommended as the consultant of the working group.  As such, the Lamivudine Cost Reduction Working Group is officially formed.
